"I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and the CANDL Foundation for your support of the children of Madison County Schools. The schools, teachers, and entire staff of Madison County Schools are most appreciative of your generous donation of sixty Phonics Phones and video tapes. It is through partners such as you that will help our students to be prepared leaders for the community and world they will face."

Madison County Schools System
The first Phonics Phones were donated to Chapman Elementary School in Huntsville, Alabama through the CANDL Foundation as part of a pilot program. Teachers soon reported a dramatic impact on reading skills, and word
of the program’s success spread quickly in Huntsville
and surrounding systems.
Other schools began making requests, and soon the phones were not only in North Alabama, but were also shipped to schools all over the state. From there, the Foundation reached out to other states to offer the Phonics Phones to even more children.
All profits from sales are directed back into the Foundation to help more children. To date, The CANDL Foundation has distributed more than 941,000 Phonics Phones, shipping phones to all 50 U.S. states as well as to Canada, Malaysia, Thailand, West Indies and South Korea. The goal is for Phonics Phones to be available in every school
– public and private.
The program has proven particularly effective for students in Kindergarten – 2nd grade and has also been highly effective in special reading classes and in English as a Second Language (ESL) programs. Because of the success in the early elementary grades, the Foundation has chosen to expand its distribution to preschools as well as elementary schools in order to make a difference at even younger ages.
